Project Beachify (4x)

Ayika’s very first project was Project Beachify. Our first cleanup was at Juhu Beach with 100+ volunteers, where we managed to collect and get over 100kgs of waste from the beaches recycled. This included plastic, MLPs, and a lot of forms of wet waste. Enerzal, an energy-drink company, sponsored energy drinks for our volunteers; London Bubble sponsored snacks; Decathlon, the largest sports retail company in the world, collaborated with us without any proof of work, talked to our volunteers about fitness for the environment, and gave some surprise goodies!

 

Our second and third beach cleanups were after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Mumbai. During Ganesh Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha’s idols are immersed in water, leading to a lot of pollution on beaches. We, at Ayika, decided to step up. Different Ayika teams reached beaches all across Mumbai (Dadar, Mahim, and Girgaon) to process waste for recycling. We managed to collect 500 kgs of waste, which was sent to be recycled into park benches. 

 

In the following year, we continued our Ganpati beach cleanup tradition–this time, at Versova Beach. We partnered with the Rotaract Club of Narsee Monjee College to host a massive beach cleanup, where we ended up processing 300+ kgs of waste for recycling.
